I wonder if anyone has noticed when the subject of sinking of USS America is mentioned on certain fb group pages .. an image of USS Tonkin is used and they claim it's the USS America even though it was sunk in complete secrecy in the Atlantic and it was only by a FOIA that it became known ..

I don't know. I don't do facebook.

USS Tonkin? No such carrier. USS America(CV 66)..was sunk as an experiment to test the survivability of a super carrier against underwater weapons...she was not sunk by the weapons used to sink her. She was sunk by munitions pre-set by EOD techs.. Please read;
