Killed 5th April 1943 aged 19 years as the result of an accidental explosion of a shell when one of the ships guns backfired during gunnery training exercise off Malta.
F105 William MILBURN. Able Seaman P/JX298908 Royal Navy on HMS Nubian. Born 22 December 1908 at Consett, Durham to Ada Milburn, single person. 1911 residing with his mother aged 19 years and single at the home of his aunt Elizabeth Brown nee Milburn and her husband Benjamin Brown at 37 Derwent Cottages, Medomsley, County Durham. Killed 5th April 1943 aged 34 years as the result of an accidental explosion of a shell when one of the ships guns backfired during gunnery training exercise off Malta.
F105 Harold Percival TIMMS. Able Seaman P/JX264688, HMS Nubian. Born 12 September 1921 at Brize Norton, Oxfordshire to Frank Harold and Daisy Harriet Ann Timms, nee Swinford of Haydon Wick, Wiltshire. Died 6th April 1943 in 90th General Hospital (Imtarfa Hospital and Barracks) aged 21 years of shrapnel wounds to his abdomen caused by an accidental explosion of shell on board ship when one of the ships guns backfired during backfired during gunnery training exercise off Malta. Wills and Admin, Ancestry - His residence was 15 High Street, Haydon Wick, near Swindon, Wiltshire. His effects went to his mother.
His father fought in the Great War as Private 38458, 41st Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps Joined up 29 September 1914 aged 20 years and 2 months. Demobilized 9 May 1919 to his home in Oxfordshire.
