David MILLINGTON. Private 26765, 21th Manchester Regiment. Born 1893 at Latchford, Cheshire to Samuel and Mary Jane Jackson, nee Leigh. 1901 he was residing with his parents and siblings at Bad Heath, Great Budworth. 1911, now calling himself David Millington residing with his parents at Seven Oaks, Antrobus, ne Northwich, Cheshire. Occupation, farm worker aged 21 years. Husband of Phoebe, nee Rogers. Killed in action 14 July 1916 aged 23 years. His widow was granted war gratuity 11 November 1916. On the 26 September 1919 a war gratuity was granted to their son John, through guardian Mrs Anne Rogers. His mother died about six months after his fathe. He is commemorated on his parent’s memorial in St Mary and All Saints Churchyard, Great Budworth, Cheshire and also on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

He joined up at Heaton Park, Manchester 6 June 1915 aged 25 years and 7 months, resided at 12 Driffield Street, Moss Side, Manchester his wife Phoebe nee Rogers and his children, Prior to enlistment he was a police constable with the Manchester police. On the 23 February 1914 at the Independent Chapel, Albion Park, Chester he married Phoebe Rogers, there were two children. Leslie Rogers (Illegitimate) born 12 February 1909 at Chester. John David Millington, born 3 February 1915 at Moss Side, Manchester. He was killed in action in France 11 November 1916 His widow received his personal property 1917 and she was residing at 137 Anne Street, Chester. His wife died about six months after hearing of his death. (Death recorded between January-March 1917 at Chester, aged 28 years) The next of kin was his son, John David Millington. Information came from Mrs Cullen of 14 Driffield Street, Great Budworth. His grandmother Ann Rogers was his guardian.
