A USAF C-130 that made a crash landing due to engine trouble at Lajes AFB, Portugal in 1984, it veered off the runway reportedly due to crosswinds, rode on top of some rock walls and nearly hit two homes.
No injuries to the crew save for a broken finger, the Hercules was carrying produce for the base commissary. The wing caught on fire but it was quickly extinguished by the base fire trucks. The aircraft was recovered and the cockpit section which suffered heavy damage was removed and a cockpit from another C-130 that crash-landed at Giebelstadt Army Airfield, West Germany was mated to it, replacement wings and parts were flown in and was repaired and flown to Italy.
Known as Frankenhurk among C-130 crewmen it was retired and stored at Minneapolis, Minnesota but was scrapped in 2013

The technology enhances situational awareness, lethality, survivability, manoeuvrability, and other warfighter capabilities for dismounted close-combat soldiers. It allows Soldiers to have double the field of view, see through smoke and around corners. IVAS also uses holographic imagery, thermal and low-light sensors for night vision
It even displays a 3D terrain map and a compass projected onto the user’s field of vision
The US Army is set to procure 121,500 units, with deliveries to units to begin in fall 2023
