Well they're not war graves. And most of the rest of them have long since been scrapped. I think some of the steel salvaged during the 1930's went into WW2 RN ships...

I remember hearing that those ships were a good source of Steel for making new Geiger Counters.
 
The Low Background Steel issue is exactly how we know for sure that there were no "Nazi Atomic Bombs" or other atomic fantasies prior to July 1945. There would be evidence in the steel created prior to July.
