15 Squadron RAF Regiment snipers are training with U.S. Army Green Berets on Exercise Red Flag (Alaska). One training activity involved an RAF Regiment sniper team moving stealthily across snowy terrain to establish an observation post overlooking a remote radar station. Sniper pairs consist of a firer and a spotter equipped with the L115A3 Rifle and Sharpshooter.
Once in position, the team observed the objective for a number of hours, gathering information on the target and routines of defending forces. The snipers then led the US troops to a form up point and provided a brief to the Detachment Commander. The Green Berets then moved to the final firing point while the snipers provided support before both sections conducted a co-ordinated attack.
