Hello all,

I’m researching my grandfather’s service in the U.S. Army and would be deeply grateful for any help or guidance. He passed away when I was 6 and would love any information. His name was Roger Neil Logan, and from what we know, he served sometime between 1964 and 1970. He was stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, in 1965—on his marriage certificate with my grandmother, his address states 555th Ordnance Company—and was later assigned to Okinawa, Japan, I believe he was possibly working as a mechanic.

I’m hoping to find:

  • Photos, yearbooks, or rosters that may include him or his unit
  • Unit history or deployment details of the 555th Ordnance Company during that time
  • Any memories from fellow veterans who may have served with or near him
I am trying to piece together his Army journey and preserve that history for our family. If anyone remembers him or has leads on where I might find relevant documents or images, I’d love to hear from you. This has been a search going on for years no and I have found little to no information.

The more information you can provide the more likely you could get some results in your quest.
I assume you have searched on Ancestry.com?, you may also be able to apply for his records from the military however I am UK based and not sure of the process in the USA.

The unit might actually be called 555th Ordnance Tank Maintenance Company, you say he was a mechanic so it is possible, I cant find anything about 555th Ordnance Company

You may also want to contact - Fort Eustis Historical & Archaeological Association
Yorktown, Virginia, they might hold records or at least point you in the right direction, I would assume at the very least they will have records of military units that were stationed there through the ages

Hi! Thank you for responding!
I have searched all over. Ancestry, Fold3, Archives, etc. Most of the information that is out there is what I have found and documented.
I have his birthdate and place, death date and place, where he is buried, his SSN, etc. But when it comes to finding anything out about his time in the service I keep coming up empty.
On the marriage certificate for Residence City or County Mailing address it says "555th Ord. Fort Eustis" I'll upload a photo.

Are you certain of the unit? There is almost nothing for the 555th Ordnance Co available. 🤔

Do you have a copy of your grandfather's DD214? It's his service record and every service member is given one when they discharge. You can get a copy here:
https://www.va.gov/records/get-military-service-records/

or here:
https://www.archives.gov/personnel-records-center/military-personnel
I've sent a request to the Department of Veterans Affairs for Military records and they replied that they have no records available. Maybe I did something wrong? I am unsure.
As far as the unit goes, that is what is listed on the marriage certificate. I will upload a photo here.

OK the record doesn't state it is an Ordnance Company, only 555th Ordnance.....I think it is actually 555th Ordnance Company, Heavy Maintenance.

I'm in Australia but I have found that there is an Ordnance museum located at the US Army Ordnance Training Support Facility in Virginia, that should have all the organisational and equipment charts for the ordnance units. Try emailing at the address on this page:
https://history.army.mil/Army-Museu...m/US-Army-Ordnance-Training-Support-Facility/

Also consider contacting the United States Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC), at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, it's the U.S. Army's primary historical research facility:
https://ahec.armywarcollege.edu/visit.cfm
The USAHEC has several digitised reports dealing with 555th Ordnance Co in their site but a quick read through digital images of written reports give no mention of your grandfather. You can input "555th Ordnance" in the search bar to get to them:
