I lived in Houston at that time, today I live 90 miles from New Orleans. I can tell you the next time someone tells those people you live 20 feet below sea level and a cat 5 will be here at exactly blah blah blah, they will be shuffling on out of New Orleans. You see a lot of those people thought they would just ride it out and do a little stealing while everyone was away for at least two or three weeks. The local police were in Walmart loading up on what ever they could carry. Then they had to bus the fools to our AstroDome which they trashed before leaving. Millions of dollars of trailers were handed out and half or more were just outright stolen. You could still buy one when I came here in 08. Tax payers really took a beating on that one. It would happen again because we have a lot of people who would rather steal that work. I watched one video of the hurricane inside of the city and a fella had his big boat tied to a tree in the front yard. He was finally forced to swim out to the boat because the house was slowly blowing away, his dog just barely made it to the boat with him. The highest wind I ever experienced here where I live over the past 35 years was around 95 miles an hour and it is a sight to see if your in your vehicle or your home. I usually sit a mattress over my computers against a wall away from any windows. Get in my Truck and find a nice place where there aren't any tall trees and just ride it out and sleep.Well, I can speak for myself: if SHTF, I´d climb on the roof of my house with a bucket of beer, open a first one, light a cigar and enjoy the view
On a more serious note, I understand the Americans. Look what happened after Katrina. I don´t remember seeing post-WW2 photographs displaying this kind of inhumane behavior.
