The militarisation process of the once rather meek German police services continues with the Bavarian State Police taking deliveries of a couple of LAPV Enok 6.2 armoured vehicles. The Enok also serves with various branches of the German military and has proven its worth against both ballistic threats and explosive devices in Afghanistan.

The vehicle is depicted carrying a light machine gun, with the press release stating its full list of armament options is to be kept secret. Having said that, Bavaria's laws authorise the police use of automatic weapons up to the calibre of 12.7×99mm.

Following the Paris Massacre of 2015 and the Munich shootings of 2016, the German states have invested heavily in their police forces, changing their appearance. They added assault rifles (predominantly G36's, SCAR's and Hanel-made AR's) and high-tier body armour to the equipment of patrol cars; other measures include the purchase of an extensive fleet of armoured vehicles (mostly Eagle IVs) and even the rearmament of the coast guard with naval guns.

The Mobiles Einsatzkommando (Mobile Tactical Unit, MEK) is a special unit of Germany's Bundeskriminalamt (Federal Investigation Office, BKA) and one of the three premier SWAT teams at the federal level, the other being the Customs Service's ZUZ and the Federal Police's GSG 9. Unlike its more famous sister unit – which primarily acts as a crisis response unit against terrorism –, the MEK performs covert surveillance and high-risk arrests.

The unit proper consists of several dozen officers, including many women. Rather uniquely in Germany, the MEK possesses its own technical wing (sometimes dubbed "Q's detachment" in a nod to the James Bond character of the same name) to produce bespoke technical solutions in support of its operations.

(On a slightly related note… holy shyte has the dusty German government apparatus ramped up its recruitment efforts or what? The imagery, the footage, the websites are all glammed-up to eleven!)

Very much the same what I thought when I revisited the various Bundeswehr webpages a few days ago. :D

One of the criteria for joining: Members must be able to afford, provide and maintain their own jeans ;)

It's somewhat of a signature feature for German police special units. They say the officers call it the "rogue chic". ?

would you happen to know the brand of jeans that they are wearing? I outfitted "my" team on the cheap from the US brand, J Crew. Nothing tactical, obviously.

You're trying to resuscitate the blood diamond pants, don't you. Cheeky bastard.

2015.
"Although a fierce military crackdown on El Salvador’s two main warring gangs has chipped away at violent crime in the last year, this tiny Central American nation remains one of the most dangerous places on Earth, with a per capita homicide rate more than 15 times that of the United States.

Children as young as 9 are recruited for gang membership. Extortion is rampant, with gangs squeezing street vendors, restaurant owners and even grandmothers for cash.

Last year, nearly 1 in 4 people were victims of a crime, according to a poll conducted by Central American University, which also found that more than 40% of Salvadorans hoped to leave the country within a year. In certain areas . . . , located on a strategic drug route on the Pacific Coast, many people rarely venture out after dark."
