Today, several flights are planned to pick up people from Afghanistan via the airlift and transport them to the Netherlands. Military personnel provide security for aircraft, evacuees and the consular emergency team that, led by the ambassador, works to facilitate evacuations.
The evacuations concern Dutch people, but also people of other nationalities. The Defense organization also evacuates Afghans who are at risk in their own country because they have worked for the Netherlands or during Dutch missions.
This group includes not only interpreters, but also, for example, guards, judicial officers, cooks and drivers. This includes employees of Dutch development projects, human rights defenders and, in particular, women's rights defenders. Journalists and their fixers who worked for Dutch media also belong to this group.

Korps Mariniers - Fast Rope Training
Recently, 860 squadron had crew training. The full crew of a helicopter was tested on their skills & drills in Fast Rope. At a Fast Rope drill, a rope personnel from a flying helicopter are put ashore or on a ship. This time the exercise was performed with the help of the Marines placed at the Defense Helicopter Commando (DHC). These flight deck officers and also Fast Rope instructors and / or operators regularly provide this assistance. Fleet Marine Squadron executes the first VPD assignment.
The Fleet Marine Squadron (FMS) of the Surface Assault and Training Group was first deployed at the end of June 2021 It involved a Vessel Protection Detachment (VPD) assignment executed by a team of 1 troop.
After an intensive period of training and preparation, the first troop of FMS was reported ready at the Navy headquarters on June 1 FMS can be used for VPD duties as boarding team on board Zr. Ms. Ms. ships or to provide security for maritime objects.
In Egypt, the team embarked on the Rolldock Sky. The Rolldock Sky is a heavy load carrier that sails under the Dutch flag. Immediately after embarking, the VPD team started preparing the MAG posts and applying concertina barbed wire around. On the bridge the connection was made with the Defense Operation Center (DOC) in The Hague and the AMV star present made an infirmary ready to use. When all the equipment was ready, there were still a few stand-to exercises and the team was ready for the assignment.
After about 2 days of sailing, the Rolldock Sky entered the High Risk Area (HRA). The transit of the HRA did not provide any details. There were relatively few skiffs, due to the high decking of the sea. After sailing the HRA, the VPD package has been broken down and the FMS team in Oman has gone off board.
The team looks back on a beautiful first assignment, which was able to be carried out well through all the training and preparations.

The usual is a Canadian C7NLD or C8NLD, Marines and Commando's usual weapon of choice is the HK416 with the HK417 as a DMR
