Isn't pilots wearing that patch becoming a meme by itself? Heck, even in the German Army practically every helicopter jockey has that thing on their helmet.
That meme reminded me of a strange little anecdote.
You may or may not know every nation using the Euro gets to issue one commemorative coin per year. There's a veto mechanism to suppress controversial designs. For the 200th anniversary, the Belgians wanted to issue a €2 coin commemorating the Battle of Waterloo. Paris vetoed the design, though, calling it "divisive" and capable of "raising anti-French sentiment" – some 180,000 coins already minted had to be destroyed.
But those crafty waffle-eaters stuck to their guns. Someone noticed that coins of an irregular denomination or a non-standard material do not come under the veto right, as these are mainly minted for collectors despite being legal tender. In a nutshell, the Belgians went on to issue a €2.5 coin reading: WATERLOO. French President Hollande was furious, but there was nothing he could do except sent a démarche.
