COLOMBIAN AIR FORCE
EXPEDITIONAL TASK FORCE RED FLAG 2018

Tucson, Arizona (United States), July 9, 2018

Kfir, KC767, A10 and F16 aircraft are part of the "Lightning 3" exercise carried out by the Air Forces of the United States and Colombia.

With the participation of combat squadrons of Kfir planes, A-10, F-16 and a Colombioan Air Force tanker KC767, it formally started the "Lightning " exercise in its third edition, the first to be held in North American territory, to where the pilots traveled, national crews and aircraft to meet this important appointment prior to Red Flag 2018, which evaluates the training and experience of these military whose mission is to safeguard the airspace.

The Colombian aircraft will be measured for five days, based on launch at Davis-Monthan AFB, advancing air-to-air and air-to-ground missions with combat aircraft of the Arizona National Guard, in combined operations under NATO parameters, whose strategic objective is standardize the procedures used by the two air forces to operate as hemispheric allies in the defense of positions and the extended operation capacity thanks to the KC767 Tanker that, with its delivery of fuel in flight, allows the participating combat aircraft to expand the range, autonomy and power of superior aviation.

During the development of the military exercises, the Colombian squad will initially form a defense team facing the F16 and A10, then receive the support of the "Bulldog" A10 and will attack important targets that will be guarded by the squads assigned for that purpose, culminating the trainings with missions where the Kfir squadron will divide itself, to form elements that can defend or attack certain positions located on American territory.

"Lightning 3" becomes the last stop before facing Red Flag 2018, the most important air combat exercise in the world and which will be attended by the Colombian Air Force for the second time after successfully participating in 2012.

Electronic War Squadrons from Colombia and the United States exchange experiences in Davis-Monthan AFB.

The interaction between the United States Air Forces and Colombia during the "Lightning 3" exercise that takes place in Tucson, Arizona has allowed the consolidation of relations and agreements between their pilots and homologous crews, exchanging knowledge and experiences acquired in military operations.

As a result of this, the Air Defense Squadron, which is part of the Expeditionary Task Force, made a visit to the 41st and 43rd Electronic Combat Squadrons at the Davis-Monthan Air Base, to know the capabilities of the aircraft. both nations and their most relevant developments of the last decade.

During the meeting, Colombian officials learned about the electronic warfare EC-130H, in order to optimize the procedures that are carried out in Colombia with aircraft that fulfill this type of mission throughout the national territory.

Learning becomes immediately the best result of these military exercises of which Colombia is a part, providing the men and women of the air the preparation required to defend the interests of the Nation.
