^^ Not so sure the Brazilian's got such a good deal with her. She is apparently a maintenance nightmare and can get nowhere near her maximum designed speed of 18kts and only has a cruising speed of 10kts ^^

I am a member of an ex RN matelots site. There was a lot of talk about HMS Ocean being mothballed and then more when she was sold to Brazil. Plenty of the public were moaning about lost capability etc but the guys on the site were talking about her maintenance woes etc and that the Brazilians were buying a "clunker".

The general consensus was that while the RN will miss her capability, her machinery maintenance woes and speed issues far outweighed her contribution. I checked several sites and confirmed her designed max speed was only 18kts and her cruising speed was a mere 10kts! Some of the guys on the site were stokers in her (snipes in USN I think?) and reckon she never got over 8-9kts cruise and only 15-16 max

^^ Given the speed / maintenance issues, Why not replaced it with a better engine? I was thinking that ships contributions to the overall RN strategy will outweight budget concerns

true.. however there are "off the shelf" diesel marine engines that could improve the performance of Atlantico. However ,as stated, at a great cost.
