I've been out there. Custer was reckless, trying to win back President Grant's good graces after exposing his brother for exploiting his position in disbursing treaty goods to the plains Indians.

Another battle worth study is the one at Beecher's Island. It's also in a very remote place.

Visited the battlefield as a child of 10. I recall there not being much to see. At that age it was hard to take in what happened.
