Prior to the Civil war did Gen Lee ever win a battle with a full frontal assault . ?? Even during the Civil war did learn anything from Fredricksburg on how futile it was ! ?

So what made him assume that a Frontal assault across open ground against heavily fortified positions would pay off ???

If Gen Stonewall was alive would Lee still have issued the same orders !??
