Born 10 May 1885 to Thomas and Ellen Elizabeth Greaves, nee Halliley. 1891 with his parents and siblings at High Street, Clay Cross, Derbyshire. 1901 with his parents and siblings at Market Street, Clay Cross. 1911 with his parents and siblings at Springfield House, High Street Clay Cross.

Wounded at Bourlon Wood near Cambrai, France 27th November 1917 and died of wounds at 48 Casualty Clearing Station Charleroi, Belgium 28th November 1917 aged 29. Commemorated on a family headstone in Clay Cross Cemetery, Derbyshire At rest in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manacourt, Somme, France

Greaves Victor. 2nd Lieut, 3rd (Reserve) Battn, The Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regt.) only son of Thomas Greaves of Melbourne Lodge, Clay Cross, Chesterfield, by his wife Ellen Elizabeth, youngest daughter of Thomas Halleley of Tossate York. Born Clay Cross co Derby 10 May 1885, educated there and at the Commercial College Liverpool, was employed in business (house furnisher) with his father, enlisted in the 10th Battn, The Lincolnshire Regt 30 Sept 1917 served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from January 1915 and saw much fighting there, returned home in 1917 to be trained for a commission was gazetted 2nd Lieut. The Duke of Wellington’s Regt in Aug, joined his regiment in France and died at No 48 Casualty Clearing Station 28 November 1917 of wounds received in action at Bourlon Wood near Cambrai the previous day. Buried in Rocquigny Military Cemetery.
