Born 1892 to Herbert and Elizabeth Minney, nee Gregory of High Street, Clay Cross. 1901 with his parents and siblings at Clay Lane Row, Clay Cross. 1911 with his parents and siblings at 1 John Street, Clay Cross, occupation Pit pony driver in a coal mine.
Husband of Lilian Violet nee Trott who he married in 1916, was granted a war gratuity 16 May 1917 revised 16 December 1919, surname changed to Smith.
Killed in action in France on the 4th March 1917 aged 25
Commemorated on a family headstone in Clay Cross Cemetery, Derbyshire also commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
