M313 ENS 'Admiral Cowan'

Formerly the Royal Navy's HMS Sandown. Spotted in the Clyde, working up before going to Estonia.
Sandown was regenerated for Estonian military use and renamed ENS ADMIRAL COWAN. To be followed by HMS Inverness and HMS Bridport, between now and early 2008.

My attention was first drawn to her because of the much darker grey paint than the Royal Navy's.
The ships are Estonia's most significant defence purchase since joining NATO, and will enhance Estonia's naval capabilities - to reduce the number of mines and other ordnance left during both World Wars off the coast of Estonia, and also to improve Estonia's contribution to NATO exercises and operations. The name 'Admiral Cowan' was chosen in honour of Admiral Walter 'Tich' Cowan, who commanded the British cruiser squadron which fought alongside Estonian forces in the Battle for Independence 1919.
