COASTAL MINESWEEPER 1961
R E G U L U S, One of a large class of Type 340/341 fast coastal/inshore minesweepers, designed in 1957 by specialists Abeking & Rasmussen for the Federal German Navy.
Formerly the Royal Navy's HMS Sandown. Spotted in the Clyde, working up before going to Estonia.
Sandown was regenerated for Estonian military use and renamed ENS ADMIRAL COWAN. To be followed by HMS Inverness and HMS Bridport, between now and early 2008.
HMS Jason was a Halcyon class minesweeper built by Ailsa ship building company in 1938. The Halcyon class were fitted with ASDIC for anti submarine patrols.
In 1946 Jason was sold for conversion to a Merchant cargo vessel, renamed 'Jaslock' and broken up in 1950 at Grays.
