James Taylor JOHNSTON. Retired Lieutenant Colonel, Royal Engineers Born 1850 Southampton Hampshire. Born 1850, baptised 24 July 1850 at Southampton, parents Charles Cornwallis and Letitia Margaret Johnstone. Husband of Alice Matilda nee Henriques. 1911 Residing at Annandale, London Road, Charlton Kings with his wife. Retired Lieutenant Colonel. At the time of his marriage 9 April 1874 at St Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, his father was Major General, Royal Engineers
His promotion. Cornet, 2nd Lieutenant or Ensign 8 July 1869. Lieutenant 23 July 1870, Captain 23 July 1882, Major 1 April 1889 and Colonel 9 April 1896.
He died at his home 12 Spa Buildings, Cheltenham 26 November 1933 aged 83.
Wills and Admin, Ancestry.
He resided at 12 Spa Buildings Cheltenham and Effingham House, Arundel Street, Strand, Middlesex. His effects went to his widow £16974 1s. 3d.
