D693 HERBERT ALLEN. Sick Berth Petty Officer D/M39287 HMS Cardiff. Born 30 April 1906 at St Austell, Cornwall enlisted 20 July 1929 on HMS Tamar (Hong Kong Hospital) civilian occupation, collier. Died 20th August 1938 aged 34 in medical station on board his ship from cardiac failure due to seasickness. "Always remembered by his loving wife and boys, Hugh and David and by all who knew him." Memorial erected by the Officers and Ship's Company of H.M.S. Cardiff.
