D641 LESLIE SAMUEL ANDREWS. Acting Leading Stoker C/KX76787 Royal Navy HMS Royal Oak. Born 17 February 1907 at Duxford, Kent to Robert and Harriet Andrews, nee Barham. 1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings at his widowed grandfather Frederick Hayes Andrews home at The Water Mill, Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire. He enlisted 9 August 1926 on HMS Pembroke II as Stoker 2nd Class, civilian occupation, nurseryman. He died on board his ship 24th January 1934 aged 27 years. of asphyxia from compression of the thorax. He was crushed under his boat at sea. Memorial erected by his shipmates as a token of respect. Wills and Admin, Ancestry - He lived at Riverside, Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire. His effects went to his mother. At rest in Plot D Grave 641 Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
