Body armor - possibly for a tank crewman

I meant to comment on some of these but seem to have made a mess of things. I found a large photoset of WW1 on a Russian site but just kept the pics I hadn't seen before.

In relation to the armour I would guess that the Spall on the inside of the steel after being hit by a round would be enough to kill or seriously injure


Edit - Ahhh I see your comment about a tank crewman, so it was likely to protect from Spall rather than direct bullet strilke

I think your submarine photo is the German UB-35 here are some more pics with serial numbers very close
