The U.K. Ministry of Defense has unveiled new plans for a new stealth fighter jet called Tempest at the biennial Farnborough Airshow. The announcement coincides with the release of a new Combat Air Strategy, which focuses heavily on sustaining and expanding the United Kingdom’s domestic defense industrial base and international cooperation in that sector, but there are already questions about the project’s viability given the country’s increasingly uncertain political and economic future.

Underscoring the emphasis on engagement with the private sector, U.K. Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson offered details about Tempest and the country’s new aerial warfare strategy in front of a full-size notional mockup of the jet at BAE’s booth at Farnborough on July 16, 2018. The U.K.-headquartered firm will lead “Team Tempest,” which also includes engine-maker Rolls-Royce, Italian defense contractor Leonardo, and the European missile consortium MBDA.

"A model of the UK's planned new fighter jet, the Tempest, has been unveiled at the Farnborough Air Show.

The UK's Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, said the jet could be used with either pilots or as a drone.

The aircraft, which will eventually replace the existing Typhoon fighter jet, will be developed and built by BAE Systems, engine maker Rolls-Royce and Italy's Leonardo.

Mr Williamson said the UK would be investing £2bn in the new project."

They hope is to see it flying by 2035.

Would I be right in assuming that this was shelved seeing that we have taken delivery of the F35 and the current state of UK economics where civilian demands should come first. We have a booming economy according to the World Trade, but sadly lacking on the care.

Still in 'development' they just have dog and pony show every so often

'Sadly lacking on the care' - not sure what you mean. Lets start by cutting foreign aid to zero and spend it on things like this - no good having a decent economy if you are not going to defend it

Interesting design. It looks a lot like an elongated twin-engine F-35, but you could also call it a stealth Tornado.
I like the rear firing laser.............?

Just call it a dog - we will end up with smaller - faster - printed drones - no pilot

These sort of 'shows' just make us look like Iran - loads of photoshop and cardboard cutout

The Taranis unveiling was the same - bit like the superbowl advert

This is real though MAGMA
