To understand the strengh of the Egyptian Infantry troops at that time. The Egyptian troops structure during 1956 was based upon the following British Forces oriented structure of combating personell, excluding the number of supporting personell infrastructure: A Battalion (Kateeba) composed of 240 soldiers or four troops (Sareya) each (Sareya) 60 soldieres or 3 (Fasila) 20 soldieres or 4 (Magmoua). each 5 soldiers


The Egyptian defending forces in Port Said

The 4th Infantry Battalion which arrived to Port Said on 31st October was deployed as follows has suffered the highst losses during the fightings between them and 3 Para.


2 Troops in the cemetry area West of Port Said
2 Troops in the Raswa area South of Port Said
1 Reserve Troop in Raswa area South of Port Said
HQ of 4th Infantry Battalion in the Raswa area South of Port Said

Two Infantry Troops (Rest of) the 275th Infantry Battalion arrived to Port Said on 1st November and stationed immediately at Port Fouad.

Two Troops (Rest of) the 291st Infantry Battalion arrived to Port Said on 31st October and
deployed around El Gamil Airfield West of Port Said as follows


1 Troop stationed along the Port Said Northern beach ( bathing cabines)
1 Troop in the Suez Canal Company HQ Ofices Eastof Port Said
1 Troop in the Cemetry area West of Port Said has suffered the highlosses during the fightings between them and 3 Para
One Battary 32-barrelled rocket launchers near Chanty Town Westof Port Said to cover El Gamil Area
One Battary SU-100 Self-propelled Tracked artillery West and Southof Port Said
One Reserve Troop in Raswa area South of Port Said suffered highlosses during the fighting French Paras.
One Troop Reservists The Gulf Camp south east of Port Said
One National Guards Battalion West of Port Said to cover El Gamiland Sewage Gardens and the Cemetry Areas consequentlly suffered high lossesduring the fightings with 3 Para.
Unorganized military trained Militia groups to cover defending WestSouth and North approaches of Port Said in addition to El Gamil and thebeach
National Guards Special Groups groups unorganizly distributed withinthe City for Street fightings
The Egyptian Naval base located in former Navy House South eastof Port Said
The Egyptian Police soldiers located in the Police Stations in PortSaid
The Egyptian Coast Guard soldiers located at the West Barracks for Port Said west approach
