A civil war began on 15 April 2023 between two rival factions of the military government of Sudan. The conflict involves the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (commonly known as Hemedti), who also leads the broader Janjaweed coalition.

This is most actieve Proxy conflict of 2025. It began as a power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), but quickly drew in foreign involvement. The UAE has reportedly backed the RSF with funding and weapons, while Turkey is seen as leaning toward the SAF, providing support through military cooperation. Wagner Group mercenaries, previously active in Sudan, have also been linked to RSF supply chains. The war reflects broader regional rivalries playing out on Sudanese soil.
