As mushers make their way along the special gold route of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, Alaska Wildlife Troopers are on patrol via snowmachine and helicopter, ensuring public safety during the race. The 2021 Iditarod began at Deshka Landing on Sunday, March 7, and racers will race to Flat near the ghost town of Iditarod before turning around and racing back at Deshka Landing for the finish.
