On an OT note, I wasn't aware of this saying in English. We've got quite a similar thing in German that translates to "tossing pearls before the swine".

Lol, so they tried to ram the vessel and sunk themselves in the process… That's hilarious.

The Resolute belongs to a German company which, I have to say, has been a little boastful about this event on twitter… apparently, the vessel sustained only superficial damage, which is (of course) good to know for any tourists who want to travel arctic waters on this ship.
In a second statement attributed to Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, the government in Caracas alleged that the Resolute collided with the Naiguata in an "act of aggression and piracy." Further, the government speculated that it could not rule out that Resolute “was transporting mercenaries to attack military bases in Venezuela, unloading them out there on the high seas.”
Tinfoil hat time?

Yesterday morning, China attacked and sank the Vietnamese fishing boat QNg 90617 TS.

The incident happened in disputed waters near the Hoàng Sa Archipelago, internationally called the Paracel Islands. Fishing boats QNg 90929 TS, QNg 90045 TS, & QNg 90399 TS attempted to conduct a search & rescue mission but were chased away by other Chinese ships spraying water cannons. The cabin onboard QNg 90045 TS was destroyed and some onboard equipment was damaged. The Chinese also forcibly captured QNg 90929 TS and QNg 90045 TS, towing both Vietnamese fishing boats towards the Chinese-controlled Phú Lâm Island (Woody Island).

It wasn't until the evening that the Chinese "handed over" the 8 unlawfully captured Vietnamese to two other Vietnamese fishing boats from Bình Châu Commune. The 2 captured Vietnamese fishing boats were also simultaneously released.
