Women of Eger byThe siege of Eger Castle in 1552 is one of the most famous events in Hungarian history. This fame is due as much to Géza Gárdonyi's novel as to Bertalan Székely's painting. Women played a particularly important role among the heroic defenders of Eger, who fought against the mighty overwhelming force, as we read in the chronicle of Sebestyén Lantos Tinódi: "There were women fighting there." The stories of these brave Destroyer Captains and crews are captivating. The commanders risked running aground in order to give the troops trapped on the beach, accurate 5", 40 mm and 20 mm fire support.
