Hi guys like me many of us have our medals on show and there will come a time when they will need to be cleaned and remounted and you can't go wrong with Bigburymint they are licenced to the mod so I'm sure your pride and joy will come back to you in full British military spec.

As I am a civvy scumbag now I need to get mine sorted, they are currrently only swing mounted and I finally recieved my Kings Coronation medal 18 months after discharge..... I have a few more than that, how much did it cost mate?

will post a pic when done, sent them by Royal mail special delivery this morning

This is the bit that worries me! I worry about them getting lost when I send them, mine are nothing special, but I'd be fuming to lose the originals..! Let me know how you get on.

Whats the turn around time?

Hi downsizer a good medal mounting services will allways suggest that you use a secure postage method with some asking that a signature is required on delivery.

But yes our medals are very precious to us and to get them back after a clean and a good job done is very satisfying..
I have my original meadals on display in a frame and I use an other set for occasions.

Sorry for the poor image.

I sent them yesterday by Royal mail special delivery so they will have them today, not sure how long it takes them but I have paid to have them sent back by same method. I wouldn't imagine much more than a week turn around though :)

All my medals are original apart from the GSM (Northern Ireland), I stupidly lost that back in the 90's and had to get a replica made

I think we pretty much all wear replicas down here, certainly this generation at least. Is it more common to wear your issued gongs up there?

I have my originals safely put away. Unlike the UK I believe, here in Oz ours come ready to wear with ribbon bar made up also.

I've got replica's made up and court mounted for wearing on ANZAC Day

I have arranged for my 7 medals to be mounted on a 5 medal bar with the medals overlapping slightly, otherwise they will be sticking out over my shoulder :)

Overlapping medals are a pain to clean but I have just read a good tip that says vacuum sealing when not in use reduces oxidisation significantly

Yes mate I dont know anybody who wears replicas unless , like me they have lost one

As Bombardier said, I've never known anyone to wear replicas unless they lost them....

So we got ours swing mounted by the station tailor as they were issued (but as the contracts got cheaper the quality dropped). Those in a ceremonial unit, Foot Gaurds, Horse Gaurds etc could have them court mounted for free and I wasn't paying when I was in.

Heres the current state of play minus the Kings Coronation Medal, just need it added and the bar to my LS&GC medal.....
