From a merely political point of view, things have improved and even « warmed up » between Paris and Moscow, behind the scenes though, Russian spies have used the tranquility of the French Alps region as a base to hit targets in Europe including the notorious Salisbury case...

Makes sense, Macron and Putin are both power hungry and love sending riot cops to beat pensioners.

So you believe France knew about those activities ?

That’s not what I said at all...

I might be wrong, but the article and your comment, more subtly maybe, seem to imply France knew about those activities but didn't act and let those activites to be carried in order to not sabotage or because of the "warming up" relations between France and Russia and France's desire to rebuild ties with Moscow.

The fact that France was used as a base and that no covert missions were conducted on French soil. But maybe I am wrong.

Yes, Paris and Moscow (and both leaders) have a desire to rebuild solid ties, after the relatively colder days of 2015-2019 (think of the Ukrainian conflict) but by no mean I was implying that France would be aware of Russia spies operating on its soil which was found out by a joint European (including British) police inquiry.

We are all Russians here.

Well, humor aside, you gotta admit that a large chunk of the population is pro-Russian as well as the majority of the political class, either from the right or the left. (a part "maybe" the socialists, but they are dead anyways).

Russian spies were conducting operations from the French territory but seems like nobody cares, nobody's bothered by this fact. It didn't make major headlines, nothing. rien. nada.

A lot do, indeed, believe there is much to be gain from increasing our collaboration with Russia.

Even from a military point of view, there is much our countries could learn from one another. And that's something I have been hearing more and more from military personnel.

Bi-polar France, apparently according to US legend given them democracy and Russian communism... see Communards.

I am rather surprised by Macron's remarks. I really thought he was simply another spineless sock puppet of the global neoliberal elite. Wouldn't be surprised if he will come under considerable attack in the media in the coming weeks to smear him as Putinista or whatever.

Why would they ? Are public sector workers on strike for having their pensions cut ? Did the yv hit the streets because economically there's no where left for them to go .......
I'm going to guess for the average French citizen Russia is way down the list of what is and is not important in modern day France .
