Five peace activists arrested at RAF Fairford during the Iraq war were trying to stop a "crime of aggression", the Court of Appeal has heard.
The protesters are challenging a judge's pre-trial ruling that they cannot plead the "illegality" of the conflict as part of their defence.
The five face charges for offences at the Gloucestershire airbase, including criminal damage.
They deny all the charges and are currently on bail.
