Lt Al Crebo's stricken A-4E after being hit by an SA-2 over Haiphong, 1967
April 25th, 1967.
LTJG. Al Crebo, along with several other aircraft from his squadron (VA-212) and the air group of the USS Bonhomme Richard (CV-31) launched on a raid against an ammunition depot near Haiphong in North Vietnam.
As he started his bombing run, a S-75 Dvina (SA-2 Guideline) exploded above his aircraft, blowing off his rudder, the top of his tail and blowing out several access doors.
LTJG. Al Crebo continued the attack, released his payload and managed to get his heavily damaged aircraft out of harm's way and out to the Gulf of Tonkin, where photos of his jet were taken. He later ejected, having been denied the use of the barricade and his engine failed not too long after and was soon picked up and returned to the BHR.

Royal Australian Navy - McDonnell Douglas A-4G Skyhawk. This particular aircraft was lost in 1979 when it rolled off the carrier deck of the HMAS Melbourne aircraft carrier and into the sea during a storm.
Lost from HMAS Melbourne during a storm in the Tasman Sea when the carrier suddenly rolled 20 degrees and the aircraft broke its chains while being repositioned on deck. A sailor was in the cockpit at the time but was able to get free and was rescued from the water by HMAS Hobart

Flak downed this VA-15 Douglas A-4C Skyhawk (BuNo 149619) near Haiphong on October 4, 1967, while assigned to VA-15 off Intrepid (CVS-11). Pilot Lieutenant Commander Peter van Ruyter Schoeffel ejected safely, enduring more than five years of captivity. Here it is shown on April 24, 1965, being readied by the catapult crew for launch off the carrier America (CVA-66), when flying with VA-64.
