What a mess in Espana and the region of Valencia, latest reports indicates at least 217 dead and the final toll could be easily multiplied by ten according to serious sources based on a giant mall nearby Valencia turned into a giant cemetery.

Also the King, his wife and PM of Spain got pretty badly welcomed by the people on a neighboring town to Valencia just this afternoon forcing them into exfil by their secret services.

At least eight dead in hot air balloon accident in Brazil
"According to the pilot, who is one of the survivors, a fire started inside the basket, so he started to lower the balloon, and when the balloon was very close to the ground he told people to jump," officer Tiago Luiz Lemos, from the Praia Grande police station, told reporters at the scene. "They started to jump, but some people did not manage to. The flames started to grow and because of the weight, the balloon began to rise again. "It later fell because of a loss of suspension."
You'll never get me into one of those things. So many awful accidents.

This happened nearby Stuttgart… likely a landslide according to reports, it’s been raining quite a bit lately in NE France and our neighboring SW Germany.

Terrible. 47 confirmed dead, 115 injured, according to tabloid 'Blick'. Most victims are under twenty years of age.

Apparently, the ceiling had been covered with some sort of foam, which immediately caught fire when somebody touched it with a sparkler.

The layout of the place also contributed to the outcome.

A disaster waiting to happen.

I would wonder if that foam is some sort of cheap attempt at soundproofing to stop the party noises from downstairs affecting the upstairs.

Horrible news, either way.

Seems like it.

The whole thing looks like a cheap DIY attempt at making easy money.

Google Station Nightclub fire Warwick, Rhode Island from back in 2003. Almost the exact same thing happened there. Pyrotechnics, flammable insulation, poor layout, and people who couldn't find the way out.

RIP to the victims.

Idiotic to use fireworks inside a crowded venue. RIP to the departed.

We have seen this before.

The layout of the place also contributed to the outcome.

Terrible. Fire marshals need to be asked how that place passed a safety check.

That’s a death trap design.

According to initial reports it was caused by fireworks igniting sound absorbing panels. And yes, we've seen this all before. The use of improper (flammable) materials, use of fireworks in cramped interiors, layouts which do not belong in the 21st century with too little capacity to evacuate, lack of safety procedures+training+directions and at the end of the day those responsible for all of it: the safety inspection being a joke by having no goal other than defering legal responsibility and dealing out slaps on the wrist for complete disregard for people's lives.

It's the same for venue safety as it is for terrorism. Every country has to experience their own traumatic high casualty event before that country and only that country will reform it's laws and procedures. All other countries in Europe won't bat an eye, only a matter of time before it happens somewhere else and that country's officials act all shocked and surprised.
