DEATH OF V.A.D. NURSE
Much sympathy is expressed for Mr. F. Furlong, gunsmith and his family of King Street Saffron Walden, in the loss of his youngest daughter, which has taken place under most distressing circumstances. Miss Winifred May Furlong who was only twenty-two years of age, had been engaged in a business house at Cambridge about eighteen months and when out of business had cheerfully given her time to V.A.D. work. She became greatly attached to her work and expressed a wish to take it on permanently and went to the Military Hospital, Colchester, as recently as Saturday, October 19th for that purpose. She carried out her duties on the Sunday and Monday. She fell ill on the Tuesday with influenza which developed into pneumonia and she died of Saturday last 26th. On Thursday, owing to her condition, her parents were telegraphed for, who, accompanied by another daughter, proceed to Colchester at once and remained with the unfortunate young lady until she died. She was a member of the Saffron Walden Abbey Lane Congregational Church and was greatly esteemed by her many friends.
