William RAVEY. Rifleman 853, D" Coy. 8th Royal Irish Rifles. Born 8 June 1890 at 20 Chadolly Street, East Belfast to John and Elizabeth Ravey, nee Hughes. At the time of his death his parents were residing at of 133, Parkgate Avenue, Belfast. 9 July 1912 he married Agnes Glenn at the Cregagh Church, parish of Knockbreda, Belfast. He was residing with his parents at 127 Park Gate Avenue, Belfast, occupation plumber, possibly at the Belfast ship yard along with his father who was riveter. At the time of his death his wife was residing at 34, Glenvarlock Street, Belfast, Ireland. Killed in action in France 2 July 1916 aged 26. His widow was granted a war gratuity 11 July 1917, revised 13 October 1919.
Commemorated on a family memorial in Plot D4. Grave 570, Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Northern Ireland also on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
He is also commemorated on the Cosy Somme Association War Memorial Mural, on the gable wall at Ogilvie Street, Belfast
