Arthur Grace JEFFRIES. Company Sergeant Major 316, 20th Royal Irish Rifles. Born 1869 at Cambellpore, Bengal, India and was the husband of Mrs Margaret Jeffries nee Robinson, 21 Liffey Street, Old Park Road, Belfast. Son of Charles Grace (not listed as Jeffries) and Mary Elizabeth Jeffries nee Cameron. He enlisted at Lurgan, Co Armagh and was posted to 20th Royal Irish Rifles. Died 3rd May 1916 aged 49 at the Military Hospital, Victoria Barracks, Belfast, aged 46 years of acute Bronchitis which he had for 8 days and valvular disease of the heart and syncope. His widow was granted a war gratuity 1 November 1919.
His father, Charles Grace served in 29th of Foot as Private 2547 and served in the Army during the Indian mutiny.
He is at rest in Dundonald Cemetery, County Down, Northern Ireland.

All Military Records and births records etc show his name as Arthur Grace Jeffries. Belfast City Council records for Dundonald Cemetery also show his name as being Arthur Grace Jeffries. Headstone states Alexander G.
His son William Jeffries born 4 April 1895. He enlisted 11th September 1911 aged 17 years and 5 months, occupation weaver. 3 February 1912 was posted to the Royal Irish Rifles at Dover as Private 8753. 12 October 1912 his father gave written consent for him to join the regular army at his age. Discharged from the Army 1 December 1912 and joined the regular Army the following day and give new number as 9921. 26th August 1914, location not given, he was shot through the back of his neck and out of his mouth. The only other record left of his burnt records showed 28 January 1919 whilst in Military Hospital, Belfast he handed his kit in (?discharge).
