Private 27209 Percy John WHITHORN Private 27209, 9th Gloucestershire Regiment, killed in action 2nd November 1916 [CWGC have the 3rd] Son of William and Ruth of Ham near Berkeley, Gloucestershire. He was baptised on the21st January 1896 at St Mary the Virgin, Berkeley, Gloucestershire. In 1911 he was living with his parents at Woodford, near Stone, Gloucestershire, occupation, groom. Husband of Charlotte Elizabeth nee Savage of 7, Severn Road, Sharpness near Berkeley Gloucestershire. His widow was granted a war gratuity on the 5th March 1917, revised on the 6th May 1920. Commemorated on his wife's memorial at All Saints churchyard, Stone with Woodford Gloucestershire and is at rest in Karasouli [now called Polikastro]Military Cemetery, Greece
