Mabel Lee MILNE. (Mentioned in Despatches). Sister 9/Nurses M/857, TFNS, 58th General Hospital. St Omer, France.

Born 8 January 1888 at Dundee to James McPherson and Mary Milne, nee Lee 1891 residing with her parents and siblings at Kilmartin Place Perth, Perthshire. 1901 with her parents and siblings at Cragie Road, Perth. Her late parents were residing at Auchnafairn, Craigie, Perth.
A war joint war gratuity was granted to her mother, sister, Margaret Jane, brothers, George and William Herbert Gilchrist.

Some notes from her service records -
Enlisted 1 October 1914 and was posted to 2nd Scottish General Hospital. May 1917 posted to 58 Scottish General Hospital, St Omer France where she was mortally wounded from the attack of enemy aircraft on her hospital 30 September 1917. She died of multiple wounds 2 October 1917 at No 10 Stationary Hospital, St Omer.

At rest in St. Omer Souvenir Cemetery, Longuenesse, France

Commemorated on the Scottish Nurses Memorial at St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh.

Mabel Lee Milne, Staff Nurse, elder daughter of the late James Mitchell Milne, District Traffic Agent, Caledonian and West Coast Railway, Perth, by his wife Mary (Auchanfairn Cragie, Perth, daughter of Lee. Born Dundee County Forfar, 8 January 1886. Educated, Perth Academy. Served with the Expeditionary Force in France as Staff Nurse from May 1917 and died at 58th General Hospital, St. Omer of wounds inflicted by enemy aircraft 02 October 1917. Buried in Longuenesse Souvenir Cemetery, St Omer. She was mentioned in Despatches [London Gazette 21 December 1917], by F.M. Douglas Haig for gallant and distinguished in the field.
