Lisburn Cathedral ROLL of HONOUR
To the Glory of God and in faithful memory of
the Men from this parish who gave their lives
in the World War 1939-45.
These chapter stalls were erected by the congregation.

Driver (Private) T/160206 David SMITH/SMYTH. 3rd Ambulance Car Coy, Royal Army Service Corps.
Son of George and Anna Jane Smyth. Husband of Annie Smyth, of Lisburn, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. Died at the Dunkirk Evacuation 30 May 1940 aged 33 years. Commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial, Nord France.

Flight Lieutenant 100563 Harry CONNOLLY. Royal Air Force VR. with 32 Squadron Royal Air Force Friston, East Sussex. Formerly Sergeant 1059171 RAF
Son of William James Connolly and Jane Connolly, of Lisburn, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Personal Inscription on his headstone. Glorious memories of our only son. Mum and dad, Elsie and Beryl.
London Gazette dated 1 August 1941.
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH.
He was granted commissions for the duration of hostilities as Flying Officer with others.
He was killed in action during Operation Jubilee whilst flying Hurricane HL860, 19 August 1942 aged 25 years. At rest in Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery, Hautot-Sur-Mer France

Sergeant 1348637 William Henry WARING. Royal Air Force VR. 49 Squadron Royal Air Force Fiskerton, Lancashire.
Son of Richard and Sarah Waring. (Irish 1911 Census) Residing with his parents and siblings at 34 Castle Street, Lisburn
He was part of a crew of seven in Avro Lancaster III ED785 which took off from RAF Fiskerton at 2211hrs on night operation on Cologne when the plane was shot down by a night fighter over Western Scheldt, Netherlands 17 June 1943 all except one who was taken POW, perished at the crash site. He was aged 33 years. Commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.

Sergeant Major 5250596 William James MULHOLLAND. 1st Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
Son of Joseph and Rosanna Mulholland, of Lisburn, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Killed in action in Burma 21 April 1942 aged 24 years. Commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial, Burma.
CWGC have is rank as Sergeant.

2nd Lieutenant 312237 Arthur Balfour BRADSHAW. Royal Corps of Signals, Parachute Unit, 1st Airborne Division
Son of Rector John Balfour and Annie Louise Bradshaw.
Supplement to London Gazette dated 11 April 1944
Promoted 11 December 1943 from a Cadet to 2nd Lt in the Royal Corps of Signals.
Died in the Registration District of Grantham, Lincolnshire England 14 July 1944 aged 21. At rest in Lisburn Cemetery, County Antrim Northern Ireland (Private Memorial, not CWGC)

Private 7017020 Samuel TOPPING. 1st (Airborne) Bn. Royal Ulster Rifles.
Born 24 June 1905 to Samuel and Annie Topping , nee Crowe of 44 Millbrook, Lisburn. (Irish 1911 Census) Still at the same address with his parents and siblings.
Died 17 August 1944 aged 39. At rest in Ranville War Cemetery, France.

Sergeant 6977 James McGEOWN. 1st Royal Ulster Rifles (London Irish Rifles)
Born 4 January 1916 to William and Lizzie McGeown, nee Watson of Wards Court, Lisburn.
Killed in action 2 March 1944 aged 29 years. Commemorated on the Cassino Memorial, Italy.
(Memorial has Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.)

Sergeant 1799461 Robert WILLS. Royal Air Force of 166 Squadron RAF Kirmington, Lincolnshire
He was part crew of seven in Avro Lancaster I ME748 which took off 2215 hrs the 14 Oct 1944 from RAF Kirmington for bombing mission over Duisburg Germany. Missing, failed to return, presumed to have been killed 15 October 1944. Except Flying Officer (Pilot) 182101 George Kenneth Shaw who is at rest Reichswald Forest War Cemetery Germany the remainder died at the scene and are all commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.

Warrant Officer 1795095 Ian Robert Henry IAGO. Royal Air Force VR. 213 Squadron RAF, Biferno, Italy. Son of Jocyln Bernard and Elsie Isabella Iago, nee Murison. His parents were married 17 November 1921 at St Barnabas Church Dublin. Shot down whilst flying a Mustang Iva, by (Flak) ground fire during an attack on a Landing Craft in the Baka Inlet, Cres Island, Yugoslavia, baled out too low, parachute died not open, died 11 March 1945. At rest in Belgrade War Cemetery, Serbia.

Sergeant 7020145 Glider Pilot John James CAVES. Glider Pilot Regiment, Army Air Corps, B Squadron, 1 Wing Group Manston, Kent
Born 1923 to Jack Harry and Ann Ray Caves, of Lisburn, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Captured During Operation Market Garden in Sep 1944. Held as prisoner 118012 in Stalag XI.B at Fallingbostel, Lower Saxony where he died 31 March 1945 aged 22.
At rest in Berlin 1939-45 War Cemetery Germany. Formerly West Berlin inside the Soviet Zone

Born 1920 in Lisburn to Robert and Susan Haire, of Lisburn, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Taken Prisoner on 8 March 1942 when Java fell. Died 9 August 1943 of Malaria in a POW Camp at Hintok while working on the Burma Railway aged 23 years At rest in Chungkai War Cemetery, Thailand

Corporal 7013019 Norman JEFFERSON. 1st Airborne Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles.
Born 15 June 1917 Thomas and Sarah Jefferson, nee Patton of Longstone Street Lisburn, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. The battalion were on Operation Mallard June 1944 as part of the Normandy Landing. the 1st and 2nd Battalions joined Operation Overlord, codename for the battle for Normandy beginning on 6th June 1944.
He was killed in action during the battle 7 June 1944 age 26 years. At rest in Ranville War Cemetery, France

Corporal 7012819 William JEFFERSON. 2nd Airborne Battalion) Royal Ulster Rifles.
Born 29 May 1916 to Thomas and Sarah Jefferson, nee Patton of Longstone Street, Lisburn, At the time of his death he was residing at Hilden, near Lisburn.
He would have been part of Operation Overlord, codename for the battle for Normandy beginning on 6th June 1944 at the same time as his brother Norman who was in the 1st Battalion
Died possible at his home in Lisburn 24 October 1947 age 31 years. At rest in Lisburn Cemetery County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Assistant Steward, 145310 (Arthur) Moses HALL. Merchant Navy on S.S. Fenella (Douglas, Isle of Man) Born 13 August 1909 to Richard John and Agnes Hall, nee Wright of Quay Street, Lisburn. 1911 with his parents and siblings at 7 Quay Street, Lisburn. At the time of his death his residence was 2 Quay Street, Lisburn.
Birth name Moses Hall. Served as Arthur Moses Hall
The ship was involved in the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk. On the 29th May 1940 the ship was berthed alongside East Mole at Dunkirk where she started to embarked troops from the East Pier. 650 were on board when it was attacked from the air being hit three times by bombs. He was killed as the result of the air attacks, he was aged 30. The ship was abandoned and later sank

Born at Millbrook Road, Lisburn 15 October 1910 to Thomas and Sarah Roy, nee Nesbitt. 1911 with his parents at the home of his grandmother, Sarah Anne Nesbitt of 8 Millbrook Road, Lisburn. Husband of Violet Roy, of Lisburn.
Died 13 May 1941 aged 31 years. At rest in Lisburn Cemetery, Lisburn County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
