Lieutenant Colonel John WRAY. Deputy Quarter Master General to the Bombay Army. Who after an honorable service of 25 years in India and Persia died at sea about two miles from this island on the 15 November 1864 aged 44 years from an abscess in his liver. He was on Peninsular and Orental Ship, Massilia.
Born in England 10 November 1820 at London baptised 1 August 1821 at St Dunstan in the West, London. His parents were Charles and Mary Wray nee Pitts who at the time of his baptism were residing at Chancery Lane. His father being a Barrister President of Demerara. Husband of Emma Sarah nee Willoughby.

Letters of Administration (with the Will annexed) of the Personal estate and effects of John WRAY formerly of Rugby in the County of Warwick but late of Bombay, Lieutenant Colonel in the Bombay Staff Corps who died 15 November 1864 on board Peninsular and Orental Ship, Massilia were granted at the Principal Registry 16 May 1865 to Emma Sarah Wray od West Malvern in the Parish of Mathon in the County of Worcester Widow the Relict and the Universal Legatee names in the said Will she having been first sworn.
