Sergeant 16312, George Henry HODGKINSON, D Battery, 91st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, He was Born at Middleton by Wirksworth in 1882 to George Henry and Millicent. 1891 with his widowed mother and siblings at Water Lane, Middleton, Derbyshire. (census has Ktedskine) 1901 his mother and siblings were still at Water Lane. George for this period was a boarder with the Hill family at Brassington Street, Egstow, Derbyshire, occupation colliery blacksmith. 1911 boarder with his brother Charles William at the home of Florence Shardlow at Revell Street, Clay Cross, occupation blacksmith.
Killed in action in France on the 1st December 1917 aged 35. A war gratuity was granted to his sister Ann Hallas 25 April 1918 revised 29 June 1918. His brother Charles William granted a war gratuity 20 July 1920.
Commemorated on the left side of the family memorial in Clay Cross Cemetery, Derbyshire also on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.
