He came up through the ranks as from Sapper 6283027 to Lance Sergeant . Lieutenant 1945, Major 1953. He lived at The Retreat, 2 Loop Road, Beachley, near Chepstow. Son of Alfred George and Ellen Fanny Charlton, nee Harvey of (1911) 2 Park Road, Faversham, Kent . His father was a bricklayer. He was married at Tidenahm Church, Gloucestershire on the 18 April 1938 to Emily Gwendoline Prickett. He was aged 30, occupation, solder of Beachley Camp. She was age 25 of Beachley. At rest in Beachley Military Cemetery, Gloucestershire
