F102 LAMB Arthur Hutchings. Able Seaman C/JX 294025, Royal Navy H.M.S.Welshman (M.84) British minelayer (Disguised as a French destroyer arrived at Grand Harbour, Malta with RAF personnel and 240 tons of supplies on the) (Mentioned in Despatches). Born 13 June 1903 at Sunderland, County Durham to Christopher and Mary Lamb, nee Leach, husband of Ada Lamb, nee Ratcliff. 1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings at 15 Lilburn Place, Southwick, County Durham. He enlisted into the navy 3 January 1919 on HMS Ganges II as J94096 Boy 2nd Class, civilian occupation, boy plater at the local shipyard. 1 January 1929 he left the navy. 1939 he was residing with his wife at 28 Worley Avenue, Gateshead, County Durham, occupation, postman. He re-entered the navy on the 17 July 1941 as Able Seaman JX294025. Died 10th May 1942 aged 38 years as the result of an explosion when his ship detonated two mines with her paravanes, sustaining some minor damage.
