F100 Alexander BALINSON. Flight-Sergeant, R/64389, Royal Canadian Air Force, 148 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Born 9 April 1918 to Henry Robert and Sarah Balinson, of 246 King Street West, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Enlisted 16 November 1939 at Hanilton, Ontario aged, Canada, civilian occupation, printer for International Press in Canada. Previously served as Trooper 545, B Squadron, 2/10 Dragoons, Militia of Canada. Died 25th April 1942 aged 24 years of injuries received in a bomb explosion in Valletta, Malta.

On the 24 April 1942 during his leisure time he and a friend (Flt Sgt Charron) went to Valletta for the day. While they were an air raid had developed and the made their way to the nearest shelter which was in Old Bakery Street, Valletta which unfortunately received a direct hit from a high explosive bomb, both received severe concussion and injuries both died 25 April 1942 in 90th General Hospital, Imtarfa, Malta and laid to rest on the morning of the 27th at 10.00 hours


F100 George Robert Coxworth DAVIS, Flight-Sergeant, R/78498, Royal Canadian Air Force, 104 Squadron, RAF, aged 26 years, the son of Robert Edwin and Ella May Davis, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Died 29th May 1942

F100 James Sidney DEWHURST, Sergeant, 1100752, Royal Air Force (VR). Born 1916 at Middlesbrough, Yorkshire to Arthur F and Nellie nee Lewis of Middlesbrough. Husband of Margaret Lavinia nee Thornton who he married in 1940. Died 21st May 1942


F100 Leslie Kenneth FURBER, Gunner, 6344691, 26 Defence Regiment, Royal Artillery. Born 1917 at Medway, Surrey to Charles John and Mary Furber, nee Burton of Gillingham, Kent. Died defending Malta 26th April 1942 aged 25 years during an air raid on Malta.


F100 Frank Stanley HOWARD, Sergeant, Pilot, 777674, Royal Air Force (VR), 601 Squadron. Born 27 March 1914 at Rhodesia, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Died while flying his Spitfire 20th May 1942. He was flying his Spitfire and was engaged in aerial combat when his plane was hit. He attempted to land but crashed into a wall near Gudja, Malta. He died 3 days later in hospital, 20 May 1942, from a fractured skull.

F100 William Leslie KING, Aircraftman 1st Class 624199, Royal Air Force. Born 1918 at Woolwich, London to William George and Margaret Lydia King, nee Fryett. Husband of Bertha Rose King, nee Orrell of Plumstead Common, London. Died 21st May 1942 aged 23 years as the result of enemy action on Malta.

His father fought in the Great War as Private 265288, 1st Herefordshire Regiment. Enlisted 5 March 1913 discharged 10 March 1917


F100 Arnold Richard MERRITT, Sergeant, Pilot, 1290036, Royal Air Force (VR), 104 Squadron, aged 21 years, the son of Frederick James and Margaret Elizabeth Merritt, of Enfield, Middlesex. Died 24th May 1942


F100 Andrew McCOLL, Sergeant, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner, 1061860, of 104 Squadron Royal Air Force (VR) of 104 Squadron stationed at RAF Luqa, Malta. Born 1921 to Andrew and Martha Brown McColl, of Paisley, Renfrewshire. He was crew of a Wellington Mk II Z8366 returning from operational duties which crashed 29th May 1942 at 23.30 hours near Attard, Malta. He died of multiple injuries aged 21 years.
His brother, Signal Man 2385775 Angus McDonald McColl, 5th Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals. Killed in action 18 July 1944. At rest in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France Plot II. Row A. Grave 07.

F100 Elwyn Kyffin ROBERTS, Sergeant, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner, 915495, Royal Air Force (VR), 104 Squadron, aged 23 years, the son of Robert Glyn and Jane Kyffin Roberts, of Rhostyllen, Denbighshire. He was crew of a Wellington Mk II Z8366 returning from operational duties which crashed 29th May 1942 at 23.30 hours near Attard, Malta. He died of multiple injuries aged 23 years.

F100 Kenneth James ROSS, Flight-Sergeant, Air Gunner, 545687, Royal Air Force, 104 Squadron. Born 1917 to Mary Catherine and James Dixon Ross, of Anfield, Liverpool. He was crew of a Wellington Mk II Z8366 returning from operational duties which crashed 29th May 1942 at 23.30 hours near Attard, Malta. He died of multiple injuries aged 25 years.

The Wellington Bomber Mk II No Z8366 took off from Luqa, Malta with a crew of six were detailed to attack the aerodrome at Catania. One engine failed over enemy territory, and the crew jettisoned all armament and bombs to maintain height. On approach to RAF Luqa the aircraft crashed at Il Hotob, near Attard, Malta on the 29 May 1942 at 23.30 hours and burst into flames. Two were injured but survived.
