Ernest ARBUCKLE (3)

Ernest Matthew Carli George Arbuckle served as Private 5273, 1st Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and fought in the 2nd Boer War. He passed away in 1912 at Johannesburg, South Africa.

His father -
John ARBUCKLE. Bandmaster, 2nd Border Regiment. Born 1849 at Cork, Ireland, husband of Hannah (Annie) nee Collins, married 8 January 1879, Portsmouth, Hampshire. 1881 residing with his family at Shorncliffe Camp, Cheriton, Kent, occupation, soldier. Died at Margherita Hill 16th January 1890, aged 40 years 11 months. Service conducted by the Reverend E.A. Alderson, C.F.
Wills and Admin, Ancestry - 6 August 1890. Administration of the Personal Estate of John Arbuckle late of 2nd Border Regiment Bandmaster a widower who died 16 January 1890 at Malta was granted a Principal Registry under the Limitations to William Ferguson of 14 Company Army Service Corps, Shorncliffe Camp, Kent, Sergeant, the uncle and guardian of John Goring Arbuckle and Ernest Matthew Carli George Arbuckle minors the sons and only next of kin.

Originally at rest in Rinella Military Cemetery, Malta which is now closed. All remains removed 1978 and re-interred in a Mass Grave in Kalkara Military Cemetery, Malta.

John Goring Arbuckle, served as Private 4880, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers joining on the 3 April 1895 aged of 15 years and 3 months. He came up through the ranks to (Band) RSM. Promoted Acting RSM 8 September 1917, RSM 1 May 1920. Overseas postings - South Africa (Boer War) 5 November 1899 to 8 March 1903. Crete 13 February 1907 to 13 February 1907. Malta 26 February 1908 to 22 September 1909. China 23 September 1909 to 3 December 1912. India 4 December 1912 to 30 October 1913. France with BEF 22 August 1914 – 17 August 1914. 1 September 1921 to 31 May 1922 with the British Silesia Force.
Discharged on demobilization 14 May 1922 as RSM. Served 27 years and 42 Days. He passed away 1942 at Barnstaple, Devon.
