Squadron Commander Edwin DUNNING. DSC, Royal Naval Air Service. on H.M.S. Furious
Born 17 July 1892 in South Africa to Sir Edwin Harris and Hannah Louise Dunning, nee Freeman of Jacques Hall Harwich Road, Bradfield, Essex. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at Landsdowne Terrace, Eastbourne, Sussex. 24 October 1914 he received his flying certificate after passing his flying test as Flight Sub-Lieutenant R.A.N.S. at Naval Flying School, Eastchurch Isle of Skye on a Short Biplane.
Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for gallantry on the and other occasions on the 14 March 1916.
Wounded 20 June 1916 while bombing enemy territory in a fight with German seaplanes
The 7 August 1917 when attempting his third landing in his Sopwith Pup at Scapa Flow, Orkney the plane veered off the flight deck into the sea, he was knocked unconscious and drowned aged 25 years. At rest in St Lawrence churchyard Bradfield Essex.
