Extended Description
16 Trooper Corporal Douglas (Dougie) GRANT P754045 New Zealand Special Air Service.
Served in the Royal Engineers and Infantry.
Resided with his wife and children at Linton North Island.
Killed at Kabul Afghanistan 19 August 2011 aged 41 helping to save the lives of three British civilians and two Gurkha security guards after the Taleban had taken over the British Council diplomatic offices. He was on the roof of a building next to the British Council compound. During a fire fight he received a ‘fluke’ shot through the armhole of his body armour and into his body hitting his heart. He passed away in a helicopter enroute to Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan
His funeral was held at Linton Military Camp, Palmerston North, New Zealand. His body was taken for a private family service in Palmerston North.



I was told about this person by Andrew Steed who I met 12 November 2021 who was on duty at Cregagh Branch Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Stall in a supermarket at Newtonbreda, Belfast.
