Taken in late October 1942 during Operation ‘Lightfoot’, 2nd battle of El Alamein.

NB: There is opinion that the image was staged for propaganda purposes
I would suggest it may be staged. I don't see any injuries or blood staining on the ground as I would have expected. It is black and white though so difficult to see. This sort of propaganda was common and produced by both sides.
