BOWER, Christopher

Served in the Royal Engineers. Some notes from what is left of his Army Record. He joined up on the 13th January 1917 aged 43 years and 1 month, and was posted to Malton near Pickering the same day. Prior to enlisting he was working on a farm as Horseman and Labourer. H e lived at 37a Westgate, Pickering, Yorkshire with his wife Georgina and his three children one being Reginald, He got married to Miss Georgina Sarah Garnett on the 16th September 1903 at the Wesleyan Chapel, Middlehough.
His rank was Pioneer 225835, Royal Engineers,310th Railway Construction Coy. He served in Rouen, France with the 310th from the 12th February 1917 to 15th January 1919. and was discharged to the reserve as Private WR2197 at London. While he was in France he went sick suffering from a hernia on his right side in August 1918. When he was in England he was admitted to the Bermondsay Military Hospital with the same complaint where he had an operation to correct the hernia. He was admitted from the 13th to the 19th March 1919.
